Category: "Best New Mobile Service"

The category "Best New Mobile Service" looks for innovative solutions to everyday problems, solutions that build on using mobile phones. Participants do not have to base their idea on an existing research case and you do not have to build the actual solution. Instead, we ask you to describe, in words and images, an idea that:

  1. Solve a daily problem or help mobile users in their daily lives.
  2. Attract a widespread interest among consumers.
  3. Are accessible via a mobile phone

Tell me more about mobile services

The Swedish market for mobile services is underdeveloped. This is the firm conviction of Johan Lindgren, CEO of Telenor Sweden, which he explains in a short interview that also talks about the future development of mobile services and mobile channels.

Here is an example of a mobile service from last year's competition. It combines SMS-messaging with a positioning system to create an alarm system for dog owners.

How does the competition "Best New Mobile Service" work?

You register and submit your ideas online here at the EIC website. Once you have registered your idea, your team's name will be added to the team list, where you can also upload your idea plan and (should you be chosen to continue) your innovation plan.

Some important steps to remember:
  • Submit a short Idea Plan (deadline April 9).
  • If selected, submit an Innovation Plan (deadline April 30).
  • Finalists selected by May 7.
  • Grand Finale in Stockholm May 15.
A jury comprised of industry experts from the mobile, media and communication sectors evaluates the participants' contributions and selects the winners.

Combined prize winnings of 250.00 SEK for the category

Our ambition is not only to excite participants to present a number of new and innovative ideas, but also to inspire entrepreneurs in how mobile channels can be used for communication and business. To this end, the winner of the category "Best New Mobile Service" does not only receive a cash stipend, but also funds to create a company based on their idea.

The winner and the two runners-up thus receive:
  1. First place: The winner receives 75.000 SEK and also support to start a company:
    • 100.000 SEK in ear-marked funds for founding a company
    • An offer to join the incubator IQube
    • Free telecom infrastructure from Telenor during the company's first six months of existence.
  2. First runner-up: 50.000 SEK
  3. Second runner-up: 25.000 kronor
Important: You keep all rights to your idea!
All participants in the category "Best New Mobile Service" keep the rights to their ideas and innovation plans. Neither KTH Excitera nor its sponsors obtain the right to develop the idea into a commercial solution without the explicit consent of the participant.
